Gnosis Pay Is Shutting Down on 20 December 2026: What to Do With Your Card, Safe and Money
By the MyCardCrypto team · Updated 8 October 2026 · Fees checked on 8 October 2026
Gnosis Pay is retiring its consumer card: cards and the web app stop at 23:59 UTC on 20 December 2026, and the funds in your Safe stay yours with no withdrawal deadline.
What this means for you
The card: after 20 December 2026, every payment and ATM withdrawal is declined.
Your money: stays in a Safe your wallet owns; you can still withdraw it afterwards.
Do this first: test your Safe’s owner wallet, export your history, move subscriptions, pick a successor app. This is not financial advice; fees and availability change — check the issuer before applying.
KAST code LBY9BQVJ: 10% off a paid membership.
What Stops on 20 December 2026, and What Keeps Working
The company announced the wind-down in a blog post on 3 September 2026 and sent a formal notice to every cardholder on 21 September 2026. Its reason: it is “ending its consumer-facing services to focus fully on our enterprise card programs”, such as the ones behind Rebind and MiniPay.

| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| 3 September 2026 | Blog post announces the end of the consumer era |
| 21 September 2026 | Formal notice sent to all cardholders |
| 30 September 2026, 23:59 UTC | GNO cashback ends in every partner app |
| 7 October 2026 | Scheduled final cashback payout |
| 30 October 2026 | Last day to query a cashback payout |
| 20 December 2026, 23:59 UTC | Card and web app stop; only the withdrawal page stays |
| 18 June 2027 | General cardholder support ends |
| 12 June 2028 (another article: 24 May 2028) | Help with refunds, disputes and chargebacks ends |
Payments authorised before the cut-off still settle. The help centre gives two end dates for dispute support, 12 June 2028 and 24 May 2028, so plan around the earlier one. New sign-ups and IBANs are closed; replacement cards can be ordered until 20 December 2026.
The closing web app is app.gnosispay.com, not the Gnosis App (app.gnosis.io), a partner app.
Is Gnosis Pay Safe? Your Money Sits in a Safe You Control
Your balance lives in a Safe, a self-custodial smart account on Gnosis Chain owned by your own wallet. The closure notice is direct: “The assets held in it are yours”. Neither the company nor Monavate, the card issuer, can take them or block a withdrawal. The flip side: lose the owner wallet, and the help centre says the funds “can’t be recovered by anyone, including us”.
Monavate is the regulated party: UAB Monavate (Bank of Lithuania, LB002139) for EEA cardholders and Monavate Ltd (FCA, FRN 901097) for UK and other non-EEA cardholders. Gnosis Pay is the programme manager, and its terms say it is “not regulated, licensed, or authorised by any regulatory authority”.
On 1 June 2026, attackers abused a flaw in the Delay and Roles modules guarding card Safes. The post-mortem of 3 July 2026 counts about $1.5 million taken and $300,000 made inaccessible; CertiK’s early estimate on 4 June 2026 was about $265,000. Gnosis absorbed the losses and says “all funds were restored to users”. Every account then moved to a new Safe in June 2026.
Terms published on 18 November 2025 promised platform access for only 60 days after termination; the newer notice promises no deadline but still advises withdrawing, or checking access without the web app, before 20 December 2026. Trustpilot showed 2.3 out of 5 from 38 reviews on 8 October 2026, with one-star reviews from July 2026 describing funds blocked for one to two weeks.
Checklist: What to Do Before 20 December 2026
Preparation takes about ten minutes, says the help centre. Only step 1 cannot be fixed later.
- Test the wallet that owns your Safe. Sign in to the web app with it, and check that its recovery phrase is stored safely.
- Consider a second owner. Account → Account details → Edit → Add address, then a 3-minute delay. Any owner has full control, so add only a wallet you control; after 20 December 2026 this becomes an on-chain job.
- Export your history. Use the Download Card Transactions button and note the card’s last four digits and expiry date; afterwards, records need a formal data request. Keep them for disputes and tax (our crypto card guide covers tax basics).
- List your subscriptions. Recurring payments will fail: “You must update the card details directly with each merchant”.
- Move to a partner app, or withdraw. Moving before the cut-off keeps your account; join later and you start as a new customer, with new ID checks. Until the cut-off, Send Funds in the web app is the simple way out; after it, use app.gnosispay.com/withdraw with the owner wallet, which must hold xDAI for both transactions (not the Safe), because it runs in two steps.
- Send to the right address. Only a Gnosis Chain wallet you hold keys to, never an exchange deposit address. Accounts opened before June 2026 should also check app.gnosispay.com/withdraw-legacy, and never send anything to that old Safe.
- Redirect your IBAN. The Monerium EUR IBAN keeps paying into your own wallet; move salary or standing orders, or repoint it at monerium.app.
- Raise anything outstanding. Query cashback by 30 October 2026. Card disputes are limited to 180 days from the transaction, or 540 for fraud, and the closure does not extend that. Refunds keep arriving in your Safe, so watch it for a few weeks.
No xDAI? Use the official Gnosis Chain faucet, or ask support to send some. After the cut-off, cut through the card’s chip and magnetic stripe. KYC and transaction records are kept for 5 years after closure, even if you ask for deletion.
Gnosis Pay Rewards Tiers, GNO Holdings and Spending Caps: What They Were
Cashback was paid in GNO. The rate and the weekly cap both depended on the GNO in your card Safe, measured as the lowest balance of the Sunday-to-Saturday week, so buying GNO just before a purchase did not help.
| GNO held | Base rate | With OG NFT | Weekly spend cap |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.1 GNO | 1% | 2% | $250 |
| 1 GNO | 2% | 3% | $375 |
| 10 GNO | 3% | 4% | $500 |
| 100 GNO | 4% | 5% | $1,250 |
These are the final tiers from the Cashback Terms (2026). The cap reset at 00:00 UTC each Sunday without rollover, and ATM withdrawals, wallet top-ups and Curve payments never earned cashback.
How the programme changed
- 17 July 2024: GIP-110 proposed 1–4% by GNO held, plus 1% for OG NFT holders, from a 10,000 GNO pool funded by the Gnosis DAO. It was set to start on 26 August 2024 with a monthly cap of €20,000, $22,000 or £18,000 of spending per user.
- August 2025: the pool ran dry, and GIP-133 added 2,000 GNO on the same rules (Snapshot vote closed 5 September 2025: 96,360 for, 5,136 against).
- The 8–9% that never happened: GIP-131 (13 August 2025) proposed up to 8%, or 9% with the OG NFT, and weekly caps up to $2,500. It never reached a Snapshot vote, and later programmes topped out at 4%, or 5% with the OG NFT.
- 9 November 2025: an “intermediary” programme funded by Gnosis Ltd replaced the earlier flat cap with the tiered weekly caps above. Set to end on 31 January 2026, then 31 March 2026, it ran until 30 September 2026.
Rewards now belong to partner apps: any after 30 September “come from the partner app you move to, on their terms”, and a Gnosis forum reply on 7 September 2026 said the same. Paid cashback stays yours; your GNO was never staked, and your OG NFT stays in your wallet.

Gnosis Pay Alternatives by What You Need
Your route depends on your card’s currency and on whether you want self-custody. Official routes come first; affiliate links appear only where we have them (see our affiliate disclosure).
| Card | Custody | Where | Best fit | What we checked |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rebind | Self-custodial; euros are Monerium e-money | 40+ countries; EUR accounts only | Euro holders keeping IBAN and card | Rebind pages, 8 Oct 2026 |
| MiniPay | Self-custodial wallet on Celo | Selected EEA, African, LatAm and SE Asian markets | Dollar holders outside Brazil | Launch post, 8 Oct 2026 |
| Picnic | Not checked | Brazil | Dollar holders in Brazil | Help-centre mention only |
| ether.fi Cash | Self-custodial vault; no key export yet | US, UK, most of the EEA, LatAm | Self-custody plus cashback | Help centre, 8 Oct 2026 |
| Avici | Self-custodial secured credit | US, LatAm, Asia-Pacific; not EU or UK | Dollar holders in Latin America | Our editor’s own card |
| KAST | Custodial | US, EU, UK; 170+ countries claimed | Easy USD spending with cashback | Our editor’s own card |
| Wirex One | Non-custodial wallet plus regulated accounts | EEA, UK, LatAm; not US | Euro and pound spenders | Editor’s Wirex since 2021; terms 8 Oct 2026 |
| Bybit Card | Custodial | Europe; not US | Existing Bybit users | Card page, 8 Oct 2026 |
| Nexo Card | Custodial | EEA and UK | Existing Nexo users | Card page, 8 Oct 2026 |
Rebind: the official route for euro accounts
For EUR cards, the help centre recommends Rebind: “Your account, IBAN and card carry over, and there are no new ID checks”. That is stage one; later you accept Rebind’s own terms and card, and may need to update subscriptions again.
USD and GBP accounts cannot migrate. The card is a free Visa advertising up to 5% cashback and no FX fees, though we found no published cashback table. Rebind’s terms list 0% on stablecoin operations, 0.8% on crypto-to-crypto swaps and 15% of DeFi yield.
Use only the official route, rebind.co/gnosis-pay (Zeal users: rebind.co/zeal), because the help centre warns about fakes. One oddity: Rebind’s terms call the issuer “a licensed third-party payment service provider” and name Gnosis Pay, whose own terms say it is not licensed. Ask Rebind who issues your new card.

MiniPay and Picnic: the routes for dollar accounts
For USD cards, the help centre suggests Picnic in Brazil, with no new ID checks, and MiniPay elsewhere. MiniPay is a fresh account on Celo, and your old Safe is withdrawn separately. Its digital-only Visa has no monthly fee and a “low nominal FX fee”. GBP cards have no official route yet; an update is promised “in the coming weeks”.
ether.fi Cash: self-custody with cashback in the EEA, UK and US
For the closest match to what you had, a self-custodial account with a cashback Visa, ether.fi Cash is the strongest candidate we found. Its help centre says “ether.fi never has access to your EOA’s private keys or funds”, though the signer key cannot be exported yet. The free Core tier charges 0% FX on euro purchases; other currencies carry a base rate of about 1% (as of 8 October 2026), plus 0.5% (help centre, checked on 21 October 2026).
Cashback comes in the ETHFI token: 3% on the first $2,000 of monthly USD spending, or on the first $800 (USD equivalent) spent in euros. In Direct Pay mode the card spends USDC, so euro stablecoins need swapping. The Netherlands, Finland and Estonia are not on its country list (checked 8 October 2026).
KAST: a simple dollar card, if custody is fine with you
KAST is the card our editor uses for most stablecoin spending (see our hands-on KAST review): one USD balance, a free Standard tier, Apple Pay and Google Pay. But it is custodial: its terms say deposits “are sold to KAST and thereafter held by a Custodian”. Standard pays 1.5% USD cashback on the first $2,000 a month, while non-USD purchases cost 0.5%–1.75% in FX.
KAST code LBY9BQVJ: 10% off a paid membership.
Wirex One: 0% FX for euro and pound spenders
Wirex relaunched in 2026 as Wirex One; its app listing says “Wirex never holds or controls your funds”. The card has no foreign transaction fee, the app adds regulated EUR and GBP accounts, and it works in the EEA and UK but not the US. The free Base tier pays 0.5% USD cashback on a virtual card only. Our Wirex card review covers the older app our editor has used since 2021.
Avici: self-custody for Latin America, not for Europe
Avici is our editor’s self-custodial card (see our Avici card review), but its country list includes no EU, UK or Swiss residency (checked 8 October 2026). It does cover the US and all five Latin American countries on Gnosis Pay’s eligibility list. You keep USDC in an escrow contract you control; there is no cashback, and the first virtual Platinum card costs $15.
Avici code QF3VW9: referral code at sign-up. Avici’s referral terms (23 September 2026) give referred users an $8 welcome bonus, not a discount.
Bybit Card and Nexo Card: exchange cards that work in Europe
Bybit’s EEA card (no annual fee, 1% cashback without a monthly cap) and the Nexo Card (EEA and UK, 0.2% weekday FX fee) are both custodial; we have no affiliate links for either.
If you use Zeal
Zeal’s card stops by the same date, says the help centre; Zeal’s own site had no announcement. First add a wallet you control as a second Safe owner inside the Zeal app, and pull funds out of its earn product.
Who Should Move to What
- Euro card: Rebind for the least effort, ether.fi Cash to stay self-custodial, Wirex One for 0% FX plus a euro account; KAST only if you mostly spend dollars.
- Pound card (UK): no official route yet. Wirex One (GBP account, 0% FX) and ether.fi Cash accept UK residents; KAST does too, with FX on pound purchases.
- Dollar card (Latin America): Picnic in Brazil, MiniPay elsewhere; Avici for self-custody; KAST for USD spending without FX, with your funds held for you.
Our Wirex vs KAST vs Avici comparison puts three of these side by side.
How We Checked This Page
We have never held a Gnosis Pay card. On 8 October 2026 we read the 21 September 2026 notice, the help-centre articles, the cashback terms and fee page, the 3 July 2026 post-mortem, and the Gnosis forum and Snapshot records. Alternatives were checked on the issuers’ own pages the same day.
KAST, Avici and Wirex are cards our editor pays with, and some links here earn us a commission. We could not read Reddit, The Defiant’s coverage, Zeal’s own announcement or Picnic’s terms. See our editorial policy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Gnosis Pay closing?
The company is leaving the consumer business to focus on card programmes it runs for partner apps such as Rebind and MiniPay. Its formal notice of 21 September 2026 says cards and the web app close on 20 December 2026. Your Safe and its funds are not affected.
When does the Gnosis Pay card stop working?
At 23:59 UTC on 20 December 2026, for physical and virtual cards alike. After that, payments and ATM withdrawals are declined and the card cannot be reactivated, although payments authorised before the cut-off still settle. Cashback already stopped on 30 September 2026.
Can I still withdraw my money after 20 December 2026?
Yes. The page at app.gnosispay.com/withdraw stays open, its code is open source, and any Safe-compatible wallet can reach your Safe. You need the owner wallet, a little xDAI for two transactions and a Gnosis Chain address you control. The help centre says there is no deadline, “and there never will be”.
What happens to my Monerium IBAN?
It keeps working. Monerium, a separately licensed e-money institution, provides it and links it to your wallet rather than the card. Incoming transfers keep arriving as EURe in that wallet, so redirect regular payments or point the IBAN at a wallet you use. Sending money to a bank takes two steps.
Will I still get GNO cashback?
No. Spending after 30 September 2026 earns nothing, and the final payout was scheduled for 7 October 2026. You can query a wrong payout until 30 October 2026. Cashback already paid stays yours, and your GNO sits unstaked in your Safe, ready to withdraw.
What is Rebind, and do I need new KYC to move?
Rebind is a Paris-based money app and the recommended route for euro cards. The help centre says your account moves with no new ID checks, though another article warns that some compliance checks may still apply. Join any partner after 20 December 2026 and you start as a new customer.
Was Gnosis Pay hacked?
Yes. On 1 June 2026, attackers abused a flaw in the modules on card Safes. The post-mortem counts about $1.5 million taken and $300,000 made inaccessible, while an early CertiK estimate was about $265,000. Gnosis absorbed the losses, says no user lost funds and moved every account to a new Safe.
What is the best Gnosis Pay alternative in the EU?
It depends on what you value. For the least effort with a euro card, Rebind, because your IBAN and card carry over at first. For self-custody plus cashback, ether.fi Cash, if your country is listed. For 0% FX with euro and pound accounts, Wirex One. KAST is a simple dollar card, but custodial.
