Gemini Credit Card Review 2026: 4% Crypto Back, Fees, APR and the Catch

By the MyCardCrypto team · Updated 21 October 2026 · Fees checked on 21 October 2026

The Gemini Credit Card is a no-annual-fee WebBank Mastercard paying 1–4% back in a coin you choose. The catch: 4% covers only $300 of gas and transit a month, and purchase APR reaches 34.74%.

Best for: US residents who pay in full and spend most on dining and groceries.

Not for: balance carriers, heavy commuters, bonus hunters, anyone living outside the US.

Our rating: 7/10 — no annual or FX fee, instant coin rewards; capped 4%, paused bonus, BBB grade F. This is not financial advice; fees and availability change — check the issuer before applying.

Is the Gemini Credit Card right for you?

We have not held this card. On 21 October 2026 we read the cardholder agreement and the Rates & Fees sheet (both dated 25 September 2026), the Rewards Program Terms and 13 help-centre articles, and opened the card page in a browser. Where documents disagree, we print both; our editorial policy explains how we check.

It is a good fit if you:

  • live in the 50 states or Puerto Rico and plan to stay: the agreement requires US residence while the account is open;
  • pay the statement in full every month, so purchases never cost interest;
  • spend a lot at restaurants (3%) and supermarkets (2%), plus up to $300 a month on fuel, EV charging or transit (4%);
  • want rewards in a coin you pick: bitcoin by default, or one of 50+ others, dollar stablecoins such as USDC included.

Look elsewhere if you:

  • carry a balance: purchase APR is 16.74–34.74% in one document and 18.74–34.74% in another;
  • commute a lot: the 4% stops at $300 of monthly spend, which caps it at $12 a month;
  • want a sign-up bonus: the intro offer has been paused since 31 January 2026;
  • buy groceries at Costco, Sam’s Club or Walmart, which are excluded from the 2% rate;
  • live outside the US: the card is not offered anywhere else.

Gemini credit card rewards: categories, caps and the BTC, SOL and XRP editions

Fees checked on 21 October 2026, against the card page and the help-centre article on reward tiers (updated 14 October 2026):

CategoryBackLimit
Gas at the pump, EV charging, transit, taxis, rideshare4%First $300 of spend a month, then 1%
Dining: restaurants, bars, fast food3%No cap published
Groceries: supermarkets, specialty food stores2%No cap published; Costco, Sam’s Club and Walmart excluded
Everything else that qualifies1%No cap published
Selected brands (Vault Rewards)Up to 10%Limited-time offers with monthly spend limits

The 4% allowance resets on the 1st of each month. Our arithmetic: $300 at 4% is $12, only $9 more than the same spend would earn at the 1% base rate.

Which rate you get depends on the merchant category code (MCC), and “MCCs are assigned by the merchant’s payment processor, not Gemini”. The help centre’s examples: Target, like Costco, Sam’s Club and Walmart, typically earns 1% even on food, and Uber Eats may not count as dining. Anything bought inside a gas station’s shop, rather than at the pump, misses the 4%.

The 10% Vault Rewards are niche: on 14 October 2026 the list had seven brands, from Ridge Wallet to Masa Chips, “available for a limited time”. Gift cards, prepaid cards, traveller’s cheques, precious metals, crypto and other cash equivalents earn nothing.

The XRP, Solana, Bitcoin and Zcash editions are designs, not separate cards

After approval you pick one of seven metal designs: black, silver, rose gold, or the BTC, XRP, SOL and ZEC special editions. The card page sums them up as “Same Benefits, Sleek New Designs”.

  • XRP Edition: released on 25 August 2025 with Ripple. Its page advertises “up to 4% XRP back”, yet you can still earn bitcoin or another coin and switch at any time.
  • Solana Edition: SOL rewards can be auto-staked, “earning up to 6.12% APR”, except in New York, and staking rewards are not guaranteed.
  • Bitcoin Credit Card and Zcash Edition: the same rates; the Zcash design arrived in 2026.

The design does not lock the reward coin. That is a separate setting, chosen at application (bitcoin if you skip it) and changeable whenever you like; a change applies to future purchases only. For XRP back on a prepaid card instead, Uphold’s US card paid 2–4% in XRP under a limited-time promotion when we checked on 9 October 2026 (see our Uphold review).

Which coins you can choose

More than 50, but the menu depends on which company holds your exchange account, Gemini Trust Company or Gemini Moonbase, and that is “determined by your state of residence”. Both lists, updated 3 June 2026, include bitcoin, ether, XRP and SOL, plus four dollar stablecoins: USDC, GUSD, RLUSD and DAI. The edition pages promise “no exchange fees to acquire your crypto rewards”.

Fees, APR and credit limits

Fees checked on 21 October 2026 against the cardholder agreement and the separate Rates & Fees sheet, both dated 25 September 2026. They disagree on the lowest purchase APR, so the table shows both.

Fee or limitWhat the card charges
Annual feeNone
Foreign transaction feeNone
Purchase APR (variable)16.74–34.74% (cardholder agreement); 18.74–34.74% (Rates & Fees sheet)
Cash advance APR29.74%, charged from the transaction date
Penalty APR33.74% after two late payments within six months, or a returned payment
Cash advance fee$10 or 3%, whichever is greater
Cash advance limit10% of your credit limit, at most $1,000 a day
Late payment feeUp to $25; up to $35 if repeated within six billing cycles
Returned payment fee$25; $35 if repeated within six billing cycles
Card replacementOne free in 12 months, then $50 each
Minimum paymentGreater of $25 or 2.5% of the balance plus interest and fees
Minimum interest charge$0.50
Authorized usersUp to 5, no fee

Every APR floats with the Prime Rate, 7.00% on 25 September 2026. The agreement adds a purchase margin of 9.74–27.74%; the Rates & Fees sheet starts that margin at 11.74%, which is where its 18.74% floor comes from. Both cap the APR at 35.99%. Your own rate arrives with the approval, and the help centre is blunt: “We currently do not accept requests to lower your APR.”

Payment is due at least 25 days after each statement. Pay the statement balance in full and purchases cost no interest. Pay less even once and the grace period is gone; the agreement restores it only after two billing cycles paid in full. A penalty APR, once applied, stays until six minimum payments in a row arrive on time.

Bar chart comparing one month of Gemini Credit Card rewards with one month of interest: a mixed 1,000 dollar month earns 25 dollars in rewards, while a 1,000 dollar balance carried for one 30-day cycle costs about 13.76 dollars in interest at 16.74 percent APR, 15.40 dollars at 18.74 percent and 28.55 dollars at 34.74 percent
A $1,000 balance carried for one 30-day cycle costs about $13.76 at 16.74% APR and $28.55 at 34.74%, against $25 of rewards on a mixed $1,000 month.

Some payments count as cash advances, with the fee and 29.74% APR from day one: wire transfers, money orders, buying foreign cash and transfers to an account you control.

How approval works: WebBank, credit checks and states

WebBank, a Utah state-chartered bank in Salt Lake City, issues the card, and Gemini Constellation, LLC services the account. Applying takes two steps:

  1. Pre-qualification shows whether you are likely to be approved, “with NO impact to your credit score”.
  2. The full application triggers a hard inquiry on behalf of WebBank, and online answers usually come within 60 seconds.

You must also be approved for an exchange account, which is where rewards land. No minimum credit score is published, and pre-qualifying “does not guarantee you will be approved”. Declined applicants get the reasons by email but cannot appeal; trying again means another pre-qualification and, if you pass, another hard pull. The account is reported to Experian and Equifax; asked about TransUnion as well, the help centre lists only those two.

Residence and the first weeks

  • Residence: residents of all 50 states and Puerto Rico can apply. Move abroad and you must tell the bank within 30 days; the account may then be suspended or closed.
  • Cards: a digital card is issued once you are verified and works with Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay. The metal card follows in 5–7 days. Until you activate and use it, available credit may be capped, and tap-to-pay starts after one chip or swipe purchase.
  • Use it or lose it: if you never use the digital card and don’t activate the metal one within 60 days, the account may be closed.
  • Support: card questions go to 877-725-1116.

What the crypto rewards are actually worth

Each reward starts as a dollar amount, “rounded up to the nearest cent”, then converted into your coin at the market price. In most cases it lands within minutes of paying; some online shops, hotels, gas stations and car rentals pay once the charge posts, normally after 24–72 hours.

Bar chart of Gemini Credit Card rewards on 1,000 dollars of spending in one month: all of it on dining earns 30 dollars at 3 percent, on groceries 20 dollars at 2 percent, on gas, EV charging and transit 19 dollars because 4 percent applies only to the first 300 dollars and the rest earns 1 percent (40 dollars with no cap), and on everything else 10 dollars; a mixed month with 250 dollars in each group earns 25 dollars, 2.5 percent overall
Put a whole $1,000 into one group and dining pays $30 while the 4% group pays $19, because 4% stops after $300; with $250 in each group the month pays $25.

Then the coins move. The card page says bitcoin rewards earned from October 2021 to July 2024 and held a year or more “appreciated an average of 277%”. The XRP page claims 452.9%, the Solana page 299.1% and the bitcoin page 176% over another window. All add “Past performance is not indicative of future results”. To keep dollars, take rewards in USDC or another dollar stablecoin.

Turning rewards into cash takes steps. You “cannot directly pay your Gemini Credit Card with bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency”, the help centre says, nor from the exchange’s deposit account. You sell the coins, send the dollars to your verified bank account and pay from there.

Refunds claw rewards back in dollars

Return a purchase or win a dispute and Gemini deducts “the original U.S. dollar amount of rewards” from your future rewards. Anything not netted out within 30 days may appear on your bill as a Rewards Charge, without interest. Our reading: if the coin has fallen since you earned it, you still give back the original dollar amount.

The Rewards Program Terms keep the program itself loose. No rate is “guaranteed or constitutes a standing or baseline rate”, and caps can be added at Gemini’s “sole discretion”. Changes may include “the imposition of an annual Rewards Program membership fee”, and the program “may be terminated at any time for any reason without advance notice”.

Selling or swapping reward coins can have tax consequences. We don’t give tax advice; our crypto card guide covers the general questions.

Gemini credit card reviews: complaints and praise

Public scores cover Gemini as a company, mostly its exchange, not the card alone. We read them on 21 October 2026. Reddit, where an AMA thread ranks for this search, did not open for us without a login, so we quote nothing from it.

  • Trustpilot: 1.3 out of 5 from about 1,500 reviews, 91% of them one-star. Card complaints from autumn 2026 include a card closed without explanation despite a zero balance (3 September) and a card declined for three months (2 October). Praise is rarer: a June 2025 reviewer says they hold the card and earn bitcoin back on purchases.
  • Better Business Bureau: grade F, not accredited. BBB cites 100 unresolved complaints and says the company has not fixed the cause of a pattern of complaints. It counted 551 complaints in three years and about 160 in the past 12 months; none on the page we read named the card. BBB also flags a lawsuit filed by New York’s Attorney General on 21 April 2026 over the company’s Predictions product (it also names Coinbase); the allegations are unproven.
  • App Store (US): the app that runs the exchange and the card scores 4.75 from 109,939 ratings.

Our reading: the complaints are about service when something goes wrong (closures, declines, slow replies), not the reward maths. A disputed charge gets a temporary credit, and the investigation “will not exceed 90 days”.

✅ Pros

  • No annual or FX fee on the card page and in the agreement.
  • 3% dining, 2% groceries with no published cap.
  • Rewards in your choice of coin, USDC included, usually within minutes.
  • Metal card for every approval, plus Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay.
  • Soft pre-qualification before any hard inquiry.
  • Up to 5 authorized users at no extra cost.

❌ Cons

  • 4% is capped at $300 of spend a month, so $12 in rewards.
  • APR up to 34.74%, and two documents disagree on the floor.
  • No welcome bonus since 31 January 2026.
  • Loose reward terms: rates can change and the program can end without notice.
  • Poor service scores: Trustpilot 1.3, BBB grade F.
  • Tied to the exchange: closing that account closes the card.

Gemini vs Coinbase One Card vs Crypto.com Visa Signature

Two other US crypto credit cards compete for the same spending. Coinbase’s own pages refuse our scripts, so its numbers come from the card agreement on Cardless’s site and archived Coinbase pages (the newest from 20 October 2026), checked against the card page in a browser on 21 October. Crypto.com’s APR is quoted “as of March 2026”.

Coinbase One Card. The card is free; the membership is not. For the card, Basic Coinbase One must be the annual plan, $49.99 a year. Rewards start at 2% and reach 4% only with $200,000 or more on Coinbase (thresholds archived in late 2025), and 2.5–4% covers the first $10,000 of purchases a month. Our arithmetic: against this card’s 1% outside its bonus categories, the extra point repays $49.99 above about $5,000 a year. Cancel the membership and the card is suspended, then closed.

Crypto.com Visa Signature. The free Midnight card pays 1.5% in CRO with no cap; 3.5–6% needs a Level Up subscription or a CRO lock-up. Since 19 May 2026 rewards can be taken in bitcoin, but the free plan then pays 1.5% only on the first $250 a month, then 1%.

It alone of the three charges for foreign transactions (3%), and its bonus still runs: $100 in CRO after $1,500 of spending in 90 days on Midnight. Our Crypto.com card review covers the prepaid card and this credit route.

Who should skip it

  • Anyone who carries a balance. At the top APR, a month of interest on a $1,000 balance ($28.55) beats the rewards on $1,000 of mixed spending ($25; chart above).
  • Heavy commuters. Fuel and transit beyond $300 a month earn 1%, the same as everything else.
  • Warehouse-club shoppers. Costco, Sam’s Club and Walmart groceries earn 1%, not 2%.
  • Bonus hunters. The public offer is paused; only a cardholder’s referral still pays new applicants, $50 in crypto.
  • Anyone who wants to buy crypto on credit. The agreement forbids it.
  • People who would rather not keep an exchange account. The card needs one, rewards sit in it, and if it closes, the card closes too.

If you would rather not take on an unsecured credit line, two cards we review work from your own deposit. We use KAST ourselves (Standard tier, virtual card, since spring 2026). Its help centre calls the card “a credit card issued through a banking partner, with a credit line secured by your deposited balance”. The free Standard tier pays 1.5% in dollars on the first $2,000 a month (checked 8 October 2026). Details in our KAST review.

Promo code LBY9BQVJ: enter it at sign-up for 10% off a first paid membership (Standard is free).

Avici spends USDC from a self-custodial contract, lists 0% APR in its card terms for now and pays no rewards; personal cards cover 31 US states (checked 9 October 2026). In August 2026 an exploit of an outdated contract at its card partner Rain took $500,800 from 1,685 Avici users, and Avici promised full refunds. Our Avici review has the details.

Referral code QF3VW9: enter it before your ID check is approved. After you order a card and pass verification you get $8 instead of the standard $5; there is no card discount, and a promo code on the order cancels the bonus.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Gemini Credit Card worth it?

For someone who pays in full and spends mostly at restaurants and supermarkets, yes: no annual or foreign transaction fee, and 3% or 2% back in a coin you choose. It is weaker for heavy commuters, because 4% stops after $300 a month, and for bonus hunters: the welcome offer is paused.

What credit score do you need for the Gemini Credit Card?

No minimum is published. Pre-qualification checks your chances with no impact on your score; the final decision uses a hard inquiry made on behalf of WebBank. If your file is frozen, the help centre says to unfreeze it at both Experian and Clarity. A decline cannot be appealed, though you can go through pre-qualification again later.

What credit limit will I get?

The limit is set at approval, and no range is published. During the application you can share income data through Plaid for the option labelled “Up to $5,000 credit limit”. Increases are requested in Card Settings with a soft inquiry; decreases go by phone, down to $2,000. Cash advances are limited to 10% of the limit and $1,000 a day.

Does the card charge annual or foreign transaction fees?

Neither. The card page, the cardholder agreement and the Rates & Fees sheet all show no annual fee and no foreign transaction fee. Fees that do exist: cash advances ($10 or 3%, whichever is greater), late payments (up to $25, then up to $35) and returned payments ($25, then $35). A second card replacement within 12 months costs $50.

Can you buy crypto with the Gemini Credit Card?

No. The cardholder agreement bars using the card “for the purchase of cryptocurrencies” or to fund your Gemini account, directly or indirectly, and calls such use a default. The help centre adds that the exchange does not accept credit cards for crypto purchases, and crypto bought elsewhere would earn no rewards anyway.

Is the card metal?

Yes. Every approved cardholder gets a metal card, and the number is not printed on it; you read it in the app. The design, one of three colours or the four special editions, is chosen after approval. A digital card works straight after verification, and the metal one arrives in 5–7 days.

Who issues the card, and what is Gemini Moonbase?

WebBank, a Utah state-chartered bank in Salt Lake City, issues the card, and Gemini Constellation, LLC services the account.

The rewards program is offered by Gemini Trust Company, LLC and Gemini Moonbase, LLC. Your state of residence decides which of the two holds your exchange account, and with it which of the 50+ reward coins you can pick.

Is there a sign-up bonus in 2026?

Not a public one. The intro offer was paused at 11:59:59 pm Eastern on 31 January 2026; before that, it paid $200 in crypto after $3,000 of purchases in 90 days. The card’s referral program still runs: if a cardholder refers you, you get $50 in crypto after one eligible purchase in your first billing cycle.

Final verdict

7/10. For a US cardholder who pays in full, the basics are good: no annual or foreign transaction fee, 3% on dining, 2% at supermarkets and rewards in a coin you choose, usually within minutes.

It loses points where the headline outruns the payout. The 4% tops out at $12 a month, the welcome bonus is paused, and the terms let rates change or the program end without notice. Service scores are poor: Trustpilot 1.3, BBB grade F. Carry a balance and an APR of up to 34.74% eats the rewards.

Against its rivals it is the simplest to own. Coinbase One Card pays more only if you hold large sums on Coinbase or put over about $5,000 a year on purchases outside Gemini’s bonus categories; Crypto.com’s card charges 3% abroad. If you pay in full and eat out or buy groceries often, it is a sensible no-fee choice.
